Osman Shah Mosque or Kursum Mosque which means "lead", is located on the outskirts of Trikala. On the road of the city, you get an expression that it is not Greece, but Turkey.

The mosque was built in the 16th century in honor of Osman Shah during the Turkish occupation of the country. This is the only one of the 79 mosques, that remains on the territory of Greece and became the symbol of Islam in the Greek city. Moreover, every day it reminds Greeks, that the people can and should be friends with each other.

Previously, the mosque was surrounded by multiple numbers of buildings, like a manor, a school, tombs, and other outbuildings, but all of them were destroyed over time. The mosque itself consists of the squared prayer room, covered with a huge hemispherical dome. On the north-western side is a reflective minaret. Damaged in ancient times, an old arcade on the facade was restored in the 20th century.

Every person can come to the mosque, the only thing you need to do is to follow the rules in clothes - women have to cover their hands and legs, it is prohibited to wear shorts or short skirts and tops, even in the hot days the stuff asks you to put some more clothes on to cherish Muslim traditions.

The decoration of the mosque is quite ascetic, without any decorations, but it still impresses a lot. The patterns on the walls and ceiling look charming and tell us about times when a militant people sieged the Greek territories. Everything has a feeling of praying and nobility, so nobody believes that people who killed others used to pray there.

The prayer room has a lot of light, though outdoors it seems that the light cannot enter through the small windows. Anyway, even in the evening people do not use artificial lighting, because everything is clearly visible.

A mosque of Osman Shah is a must-see place for amateurs of architecture and history, there you can see the style and building material of the 16th century, and to learn more about Islam.
