The high spire of the Collegiate Church is a symbol of old Stuttgart. This is an only building, which was founded in the 10th century, in the Hohenstaufen Epoque. This church differs a lot from an original one, but it still has some ancient pieces. The oldest part, built at the end of the 12th century, is a basement floor of the Southern Tower.
According to the historic data, the first monumental building was established in 1240. It had 2 high towers, visible from the different parts of a city. In contrast to other wooden churches, this one was made of stone, which added prestige to it. But the building had so many restorations, that nowadays this is an asymmetric construction with 2 towers. The visitors can see the differences in the church’s walls. Every detail of it is made in an individual style, without common conception and symmetry.
Inside, the church the tourists can notice an organ, high stained-glass windows, sculptural compositions, and bas-reliefs – all the greatness's signs of the royal families.
Now Collegiate Church is a main opened Protestant church of the city.
