Very unusual and looking like a toy – Asamkirche is a treasure of München. It is built in the baroque style. The facade of a church differs from the style of traditional European cathedrals. So, people will rather believe that it is a fairy mansion of a rich man than a governmental church.

It was built by two München citizens: brothers Egid and Cosmas Asam. They were not only the clients but also the architects of a future church. That is why they were building whatever they could imagine: they chose the style, height, area. And the church was named Asamkirche in honor of their work.

The building process, considering the level of technologies in the 18th century, was extremely fast (1733-1746). Firstly, it was planned as a family chapel. But during the building, brothers got the land nearby, so they could build not only the chapel but a little church.

The first few years after building it was a church just for family, but the citizens were so excited to see how it looked inside, that brothers made it public. A little while later they started the lessons for young people.

The excitement of citizens is not surprising. Getting inside the church, I felt that the interior is made of the papier mache and painted by the most proficient painter with the thinnest brush. The church is divided into 3 parts. Down below – benches and aisles in dark colors. The middle – the balcony and choirs – a combination of pure white and sky-blue. The top – the symbol of faith – the fresco shining from daylight.
