One of the most famous cemeteries in the Danish capital is Assistens. It is located in the heart of Copenhagen and is more like a park, a popular holiday destination for both citizens and tourists. It is a final resting place of such outstanding personalities as the great storyteller Andersen and Russian General P.N.Myshetsky. Many legendary people wished to be buried in Assistens Cemetery. The old Danish necropolis has been considered a prestigious burial site since the early 19th century. Before that, it had been a burial place only for the homeless for almost a century.

Assistens Cemetery is a popular tourist attraction. Every year it is visited by tens of thousands of tourists. Thus, the local authorities have repeatedly thought about starting to charge entrance fees. After all, Assistens Cemetery even has its own museum dedicated to the Danish writer Herman Stilling, known for his stories about fantastic trolls. The museum is located in old stables on the very edge of the cemetery along with an art workshop and a children's cafe.
