Traditionally, a trip to the Czech Republic is associated with beer, pork knuckle, a couple of typical city excursions and that's it. But the Czechs themselves, the locals, also have some ways to spend their free time in a special manner. They are unlikely to go on a sightseeing tour every weekend, for example, in Prague. That's why I decided to use the «do as a local» principle on my next visit to my favorite Czech Republic. The Czechs have a great habit – they spend weekends with their families and the more active this holiday is – the better. Therefore, when you come here and see people with backpacks, baby strollers and carriers, dogs on leashes, you can be sure that these tourists did not come from different countries, it is the hospitable Czech hosts who explore the unknown corners of their country.
So, I would like to present to you the town of Špindlerův Mlýn, located in the Karkonosze Mountains, in the highest part of the Sudetenland. This town is located near Hradec Králové and Liberec. By the way, they also have very interesting excursions that you can visit if it rains. But let’s get back to this later.
As experts of local culture told me, you can come here all year round, but in fact, there are only two seasons here: WINTER (skiing) and SUMMER (hiking), and you can also come to get some air in the off-season.
So we started to explore the territory by moving North-West from Špindlerův Mlýn. There was a mountain Labská bouda Hotel, and 1000 meters to the South from this place, we finally saw the first and most magnificent of the Karkonosze waterfalls – Pancava. I didn’t actually get why this part of the Pancava River is called a stream but from a height of 148 meters the flows of the highest and most spectacular waterfall fell down in beautiful strands. We came to an Ambrozhova observation deck to see an unforgettable view of the Lysá hora mountain, the Śnieżne Kotły mountain, the Kozy-Grzhbety ridge, and the Łabski Szczyt gorge. The landscape was fascinating! At first, I grabbed my phone out of habit, took a few pictures, but then I just wanted to stand and watch the water flowing down without taking my eyes off. I woke up only from the voice of the guide who brought another group of tourists to show the beauty.
