Many European cities were influenced by the laurels of the great Catholic shrine, the Holy House in the Italian city of Loreto. The inhabitants of each city dreamed of having their own Holy House. Hence the common name of the religious buildings "loreta".

The history of the Loreta in Prague began in the 17th century thanks to the pious maiden, a native of the Czech capital, Katerina Lobkowicz. She was very ambitious. After the construction of a replica of the Italian Holy House of Our Lady, she contributed to the construction of the Catholic Church of the Nativity of the Lord (Kostel Narození Páně). The consecration of the new church took place in 1631. Today, the Loreta is an impressive religious complex that includes not only the Holy House and the church but also several charming chapels and fountains.

According to an ancient legend, several logs and stones for the construction of the Holy House in Prague were brought from Loreto, from the Holy House of Our Lady. The Baroque facade of the House in Prague was created by the talented sculptor and architect Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer. The interiors were decorated with frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Our Lady and statues of the Old Testament prophets.

The bell composition of the church's clock tower was made by the famous clockmaker Peter Neumann, and the thirty bells were cast in Amsterdam and brought specially for the church. For the first time, Prague citizens heard the bell ringing in 1695. Since then, the bells of the Loreta have rung every hour. You can still hear them today.

In the 18th century, the architectural complex was expanded with the Loreta's Treasury building. Despite a series of confiscations in the 19th and 20th centuries, it still houses an impressive collection of church relics, precious jewelry, and significant historical and cultural artifacts. The Loreta's Treasury is now considered one of the most interesting museums in Prague, and the Loreta itself is known as an international pilgrimage center for Catholic believers.
