Sometimes travelers think that a lifetime is not enough to enjoy the wonderful city of Prague. Every corner or street of the Czech capital hides its secrets and keeps its treasures: the central Wenceslas Square with a huge equestrian statue of Duke St. Wenceslas, the Old Town Square with the Town Hall and the Gothic Church of Our Lady before Tyn, the amazing Charles Bridge, famous for its sculptures, and dozens of beautiful museums with impressive collections of exhibits... All these sights attract tourists in Prague's open arms. But sometimes people just want to stay in silence, breathe fresh air and feel the atmosphere of a new country.
Prague has an amazing place for this too. You can find this picturesque nook right in the city. It is Letna Park (Letenské sady). With an area of 25 hectares, the "green lungs" of Prague are located along the Vltava River, on its left bank. Equipped with hiking trails, jogging and cycling paths, the park quickly became a favorite place of the citizens. Healthy lifestyle fans gather here in the mornings, parents with children come here at noon, and couples arrange their dates in the evening.
Travelers from other countries rush to Letna Park to see the ancient city from a bird's-eye view. As the park lies on a high green hill, it is not surprising that it offers a fantastic view of Prague, the full-flowing Vltava River, and its legendary bridges.
The park was first mentioned in the Middle Ages, in the 13th-14th centuries. According to historical data, Letna Park hosted the celebrations of kings' coronations. In between feasts and celebrations, the park was a hunting ground for the local nobles. It became open to the public only in the 19th century.
Letna Park also has its own attractions, including a 24-meter high metronome. The work of the famous sculptor Vratislav Novak has become a symbol not only of the Czech capital but also of everyone's time, which is going too fast.
