The pearl of the Czech capital, one of the most recognizable buildings in the city, a real masterpiece of palace architecture, a striking example of the charming French Rococo style rises in the heart of the fabulous Prague, the colorful Old Town Square. The majestic Kinsky Palace was built in the middle of the 18th century for the Czech Count Jan Arnost Golz. Hence the double name, the Golz-Kinsky Palace.

The design of the luxurious pink and white building was created by the court architect Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer, a fan of luxurious palaces, Baroque and Rococo styles. Richly decorated with stucco by the Italian sculptor Bossi, the creation of Dientzenhofer stands out among other monuments of ancient architecture. After all, most of the buildings in Old Town Square are gray and Gothic. The upper floors of the building are decorated with several statues of ancient goddesses and gods by the famous Czech master Ignaz Franz Platzer, the court sculptor of the Austrian emperor.

The medieval Golz Palace was named Kinsky after the death of its founder, in honor of the new owner of the building, Stepan Kinsky. At this time, the palace was adorned with luxurious interiors in the style of popular classicism. Luckily, the original interiors of the halls are well-preserved.

Like many old buildings in the Prague Old Town, the Kinsky Palace is closely connected with the name of the legendary writer Franz Kafka. At the beginning of the 20th century, there was a haberdashery of his father, Hermann Kafka. By the way, in the interwar years, the palace served as the seat of the Polish Embassy in the Czech Republic.

Today, the palace is open to tourists. It houses the collections of the National Gallery, consisting of genuine artworks from India, China, Japan, and other Asian countries. The collection of fine Chinese ceramics and the extensive collection of Buddhist artifacts deserve special attention. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum hosts temporary ones dedicated to the art of Asia.

Address: Old Town Square, 1/12
