When does Prague become Venice? Every may during the Navalis festival. This spring celebration brings together boats, Baroque music, concerts on the river Vltava and colorful evening lights illuminating historical Prague in memory of John Nepomucene.

This is one of the most beautiful events in the Czech capital! And it's worth it to plan to see it! Navalis is a secular name, taken from the Latin combination "musica navalis", which means musical festivals on the water.

The water festival in Prague is celebrated on May 15, on the eve of John Nepomucene memorial day. Everyone who has visited the Czech Republic at least once gets acquainted with this Saint – there are many monuments and places dedicated to him. On this day, the show turns the water surface in the heart of Prague, around the Charles bridge, into a stage. The program always includes a costumed procession, magic music over the Vltava river, a boat regatta and special surprises that are new every year.

The most revered Czech Saint is no less respected in Venice. Italians call him Giovanni. And Italians certainly come to see the colorful Prague show every may. A couple of years ago, a 17-meter long Venetian gondola, which left Italy for this celebration for the first time in history, was specially delivered to Prague.

John Nepomucene is the patron Saint of the Czech and Prague especially, as well as all professions and occupations related to water and taking place on the water. This was the day of boatmen, millers, bridge builders. And now every kayak owner, skipper, diver and even diver is also under the patronage of the righteous John.

In general, Midsummer celebrations are over 290 years since the canonization of Saint John Nepomucene.
