Viewers of the cult Czech TV series "Tell me" can easily answer the question of which building appears in the film more often than others. A recognizable building is the city hall in Pardubice, where the family of the main characters of the series lives.

The historical center of the city itself is pretty. Its main advantage is the elegant city hall on Pernstein square (Pernštýnské námestí). The neo-Renaissance style slightly disturbs the calm of the square, but the decoration of the building makes the urban space majestic.

The building was built in 1892-1894 on the site of three old houses and is a notable example of pseudo-style architecture often used in the late 19th century.

The city hall has been located on the Northside of the square since 1759 when the city purchased one of the buildings from a local soap maker. However, at the end of the XIX century, the old town hall was no longer enough for the growing city. So it was decided to get a new building even more impressive!

The construction of the new city hall meant serious interference with the existing design of the architectural environment of the city. The building designed by the Prague architect Jan Weyrich can be recognized by the facade decorated with sgraffito. On the second floor, between the windows, there are allegorical figures of Selflessness, Straightforwardness, Honesty, and Consent by the artist Karel Ludvík Klusáček. Above the windows on the first floor, there are eight medallions with portraits of Czech rulers: Vratislav II, Přemysl Otakar II, Wenceslaus II Přemyslid, Charles IV, Wenceslaus IV, Jiří Poděbrad, Vladislav II and Rudolf II. On the front of the building, there is a statue of Vojtěch I of Pernstein. The two towers of the city hall are decorated with four relief images: a citizen (an allegory of prosperity), an aristocrat (loyalty), a craftsman (energy)and a woman (responsibility for the household). The North wing is decorated with sgraffito designed by the artist Mikoláš Aleš: it represents dance, reading, music, and the whole culture of Pardubice. In front of the town hall stands the Marian column, installed on the square in 1695.

Today, the building houses the magistrate of Pardubice. Official visitors are welcomed in the Historic hall with a coffered ceiling and allegorical paintings. Many cultural and social events are held in the music hall with a balcony.
