The sea does not always happen when you even dream about it. Then at least the lake?! Probably, so the Czechs invented themselves. Because in the Czech Republic there is a sea of opportunities for recreation in a variety of styles, but the sea is just not there!
Mácha lake is located 30 km to the North of Mladá Boleslav. This is a man-made pond. The largest in the Liberec Region and one of the largest in the Czech Republic, with an area of 284 hectares and a depth of up to 5 m. It was founded in the Middle Ages, in 1366, by King Charles IV. Fish farming for him was one of the matters of national importance.
This is a real resort with spacious beaches under pine trees, fragrant coniferous air, water slides, and showers, with beach cafes and bars. There are two islands on the lake, Mouse and Duck. These are important ornithological locations. Access to them is prohibited for vacationers. But even without these islands on the lake and its shores, there are a lot of interesting things to do.
It is a pleasant place to spend a long summer day and a refreshing weekend. You can arrange a relaxing holiday for a week. In addition to four sandy beaches, in the towns of Doksy and Stare raft, near the lake, there are several hotels, campsites and a real "seaside" atmosphere. This place is perfect for a trip during the hot Czech summer.
The lake is often called the "Czech sea". It was named in honor of Czech romantic poet Karel Hynek Mácha. He liked to walk around castles, historical and natural places. He visited the vicinity of the pond, which until the end of the XIX century was simply called the Big one. Today, a Museum exhibition in the oldest preserved wooden house in Doksy is dedicated to Mácha's poetic work and life.
