The unusual structure above the mountain Ještěd near Liberec is particularly impressive in the fog. The structure resembles a slender tower or a spaceship. In any case, something interesting!

The TV tower with a restaurant and hotel on the highest peak of the Ještěd Mountain (1012 m) has long been one of the symbols of the Liberec Region. The building was built in 1966-1973 by the architect K. Gubachek, who was awarded the Auguste Perret prize for this project – the highest award of the International Union of architects.

The building on the mountain offers endless views in all directions. In clear weather, you can even see the Petrin Hill in Prague! Just below the top, there is the upper station of a two-cab lift from the Gorni District, part of the city of Liberec.

The funicular to Ještěd mountain appeared much earlier than the TV tower. The funicular has been operating since 1933. It is a common practice for residents of Liberec to take the funicular to the mountains, and for guests, of course, it is the fastest way to get up to the tower. The funicular is open during the summer season. It takes just four minutes to get to the mountain. The maximum height of the cabin above the terrain is 30 m. The cabin can accommodate up to 35 people.

In summer the climb to Ještěd can be combined with trips to the scenic surroundings of Liberec or with the visit to the Jizera mountains, Sychrov Castle and Frýdlant Castle, Spa Libverda. And Liberec itself offers a wide range of cultural and sports events: a zoo, a botanical garden, a swimming pool. In the winter season in the mountains of Ještěd, there are ski slopes for beginners and advanced skiers, several ski lifts, cable cars and the center of ski jumping.

You can go to the resort village Plain-under-eštěd, where several hiking trails intersect. There is a scenic educational trail named after Karolína Světlá. This is a Czech writer who lived here in the 19th century. And who came up with stories for her works in the special local atmosphere.
