Červená Lhota is a small but extremely attractive castle. It is the only one in the Czech Republic standing on a lake directly above the water. The castle is located 19 km from Jindřichův Hradec and can perfectly complement the acquaintance with this city in the south of the country.
The noble fortress appeared here in the 15th century, the new owners made their own changes to the appearance of the building until the middle of the 17th century. Červená Lhota seems to float above the lake surface, sitting tightly on a rocky island in the middle of the water.
"Červená" means "red", and "Lhota" is a typical name for many ancient villages in the Czech Republic, Moravia, and Slovakia. The coral coloring that is unusual for a castle, creates an amazing game of colors combined with shades of water, sky, and hilly forest around. There is a legend that the color was chosen to hide bloodstains, traces of the crime. No matter how much they painted over, the spot appeared again, so they repainted the entire building.
This is another lock on the list of "movie actors". Many fairy-tale films were shot here. For example, the lake castle played a prominent role in "Princess Goldilocks", and its" companion" was the Sychrov Castle in the north of the Czech Republic.
The main exhibition in the interiors of the first floor is an authentic apartment of the last owners, the princess von Schönburg-Hartenstein, with the same interiors as it was after 1910. Then the last reconstruction of the castle was completed. In the attic rooms, there is a daily environment typical of the life of a nobleman in the era of the end of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and in the days of the First Czechoslovak Republic. In the summer season, there is an exhibition in the basement, which presents three rooms that go into the rocks under the castle.
The chapel of the Holy Trinity, a Renaissance building, stands on top of a hill in the Castle Park. It is interesting to see original preserved illusory paintings and an artistic wooden ceiling symbolizing the heavenly Jerusalem. It is an active Church serving the Roman Catholic Church.
