Jizerka, a village of glassmakers, is located in the picturesque valley of the river of the same name, under the hill Bukovets. This is a tourist crossroads: an ideal starting point for hiking and mountain biking, and in winter the surrounding area becomes a real paradise for cross-country skiing fans.

The green village occupies a small plateau in the heart of the Jizera Mountains. Today it is the highest village in the Czech Republic (850 m). And the village was even named after a mountain of Jizera (1122 m).

The first mention of the settlement dates back to 1539: historical sources call it the habitat of birders who caught songbirds there. Later Jizerka was populated by loggers and miners of precious stones. In the mid-nineteenth century, two glassworks were founded. One of them still works today. To learn more about the history and natural resources of this region, you can visit the local Museum in the old school.

Sapphire stream runs through the village. Previously, the stream was a famous reservoir of precious stones (rubies, blue sapphires, spinels, topazes, and ilmenite). Around the stream, there are scattered houses of the Czech mountain type, which are mostly wooden with traditional decor: an old sawmill, a Manor house, a pyramid. The most famous hut has the unexpected name of the "house of manure". It contains a collection of curious things collected by the traveler Gustav Ginzel.

The state reserve and natural science trail are located on the Bukovets Hill (1005 m). And guarded meadow and peat bogs of the Jizera can be found in the area of the village.

The combination of heights, the terrain of the valley and microclimate of the river Jizerka creates conditions for extreme weather in winter. Temperatures of -30 °C and below are common in this region. And on Sunny, warm days, Jizerka is a small paradise, ideal for active, eco-friendly recreation.
