The Podkrušnohorský zoo, which has been operating since 1975, is the largest in the Czech Republic, at least in terms of area. It occupies an incredible 120 hectares. And it is home to about 1100 representatives of the animal world of Eurasia: 160 different species, 14 of them are endangered. The zoo is open to visitors daily throughout the year. Summer visits to the world of wildlife can be supplemented with swimming in the unique Alum Lake.

The zoo specializes in European animals. There you can see the natural nesting grounds of several dozen species of birds; representatives of ungulates (bison) and ungulates (Przewalski's horse); beavers, Eurasian lynx, wolf, forest cat, brown bear, fox, seals, and many domestic animals. A separate part of the park is a terrarium, where you can get acquainted with the fascinating world of cold-blooded inhabitants who can live both in water and on land.

The cemetery of extinct animals is a kind of sad part of the park. In this place, you can learn about the species of animals that disappeared due to human intervention. Each symbolic "grave" represents one species: the marsupial wolf, the Mauritius dodo (a flightless dodo bird), the Caribbean monk seal, the zebra quagga, the primeval tur, and the giant wingless New Zealand birds. All of them were victims of man's uncontrollable greed.

Podkrušnohorský animal park is a separate world, with its events and facilities. For children, there is a playground, a rope park "Lanachek", a corner for communicating with animals ("Petting zoo") and pony riding. Two restaurants, a pet store, and a gift shop are also open to visitors. In autumn, you can look into the chestnut grove, where trees with edible fruits grow.

The Localka Amalka excursion train runs through the territory of the zoo, moving visitors around the main part of the park. You can also book a guided trip through the territories of free animal keeping in a jeep "Safari Express".

Environmental actions also do not bypass this quite large and independent world. The park takes part in the Earth Day, Fairytale Safari, Animal Day, walks on St. Hubert's day (November 3) and in the March through the city on St. Nicholas day (December 6).
