Český Krumlov is a charming city in the southern Czech Republic, located 180 km from Prague. It is one of the few cities that have fully preserved its medieval character, primarily due to its authentic architectural appearance.

The old city is included in the UNESCO world cultural heritage list. Above the town, which looks more like a fairy-tale setting, there are two notable buildings: an impregnable castle and the Gothic Cathedral of St. Vitus.

Český Krumlov Castle, after which the city is named, is the second largest and culturally important in the Czech Republic, after Prague Castle.

Located on an elevation, it is designed as if it "grows" out of a jagged rock, which makes it majestic and even partly harsh. From there, from the height of the cliff, you can enjoy amazing views of both the historical and modern parts of the city and the hills surrounding the town.

The path to the impregnable construction leads over the bridge over the moat, where the main guards of the castle live: brown bears have been guarding the approaches to the walls since the 16th century, since the last Rozhemberks, who owned Krumlov for several centuries. Today, large "Teddy bears" are especially pleasing to children.

Behind the walls of the citadel and five courtyards is the castle park, decorated with fountain compositions. But the main value of the park is the Baroque Theater, unique in its design: the auditorium rotates inside the ring stage. Stage of Castle Theatre in Český Krumlov is one of the best preserved in Europe theater venues of the 18th century with almost complete equipment: scenery, stage equipment, costumes, props.

The "crown of Český Krumlov" can be called the entire castle complex with a magnificent Renaissance tower. The Czech writer Karel Capek called it "the highest" of all that he knew. If you look at the tower from the lower parts of the city, the feeling of incredible height really appears.

By the way, speaking of the really highest and most "underground": the highest accessible point of the city is the tower observation platform at a height of 35 m above the level of the 2nd courtyard; and the deepest accessible place is the Wenceslas cellars in the 4th courtyard, which are 12 m below ground level.
