The Czech Republic is not only about beer, Karlovy Vary, and the Good Soldier Švejk – it’s much more. Those who explore the local nature better see this country from a completely different side. Even the most experienced tourists are amazed by the amount of interesting and beautiful places hidden outside the popular Czech cities.
If you want to see pristine nature, hide from civilization, and enjoy the romantic atmosphere of forest and mountain cliffs, come to the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area in the northeast of the country. There are not many people. Perhaps this is why this place is so fascinating and makes visitors fall in love with it.
The rocky mountain area of Broumov Forest, which occupies 410 square kilometers, was declared a national reserve in 1956. The local landscape consists of forests, rock towns, gorges, hills, and small but picturesque fields.
The Broumov Walls is one of the most majestic sights of the nature reserve. Majestic cliffs that stretch for 12 kilometers in length are located in the Broumov Highlands. The landscape amazes with incredible hills and gorges, which are so interesting to explore.
What is more, the tourists are attracted by the so-called Slavěnské hřiby (mushrooms). They can be seen in the forest above the village of Slavný, located near the Broumov Walls. These are ancient rock formations that have acquired their unusual shape as a result of uneven erosion. They look like huge mushrooms. Looking at them, you can imagine that real giants live in the forests of the reserve.
The Broumov Walls are intertwined with a network of hiking trails. It is better to devote the whole day to walking there and prepare the necessary amount of water and food in advance.
