As a rule, no trip to picturesque Croatia is complete without visiting the famous Plitvice Lakes National Park. However, few people know that Croatia is also home to an equally marvelous place called Krka National Park. Those lucky ones who visited both reserves will never tell you which one is more interesting. Thus, it is out of the question: just add a couple of extra days to your itinerary and mark both parks on the map.
Located near the popular resort towns between Knin and Sibenik, Krka National Park was founded in 1985 and named after the river of the same name. An area of about 110 square kilometers houses seven amazing waterfalls, including the famous Skradinski Buk 46 meters high. Its powerful streams fall on the stones below with such a roar that you can barely hear the cries of admiration of people standing nearby, and a thick white mist rising from the water shrouds the river landscape in mystery.
The other six waterfalls are no less picturesque. Their height ranges from 8 to 32 meters. Each of them is gorgeous in its own way. The fertile land of the park, washed by the Krka, is inhabited by many species of animals and birds, and the river is home to 18 different species of fish, 10 of which can only be found here.
The park is of particular importance for bird lovers. This place attracts ornithologists from all over the world. You can often see them frozen with cameras waiting for rare shots among the trees. Another pride of Krka National Park is almost a thousand varieties of plants and trees, many of which are endemic. And, of course, nothing can compare with the fresh forest air. With every deep breath of this fragrant and sweet air, travelers gain strength and energy.
