The warm rays of the southern sun, the gentle waves of the Adriatic Sea, the cleanest equipped beaches marked with the Blue Flag, fiery dances in the nightclubs of Split and Trogir – these are the reasons why most European tourists go to Croatia. But there are also those tourists who can spend days wandering the cobblestone streets and climbing the hilltops just to touch the eternity, like ancient churches and temples, magnificent palaces, and powerful stone citadels, seven of which are located in the modern town of Kastela. Lovers of history and defensive architecture will undoubtedly like to visit all the local castles. But if you do not have much time for sightseeing, it is worth looking in the most ancient local castle called Sucurac and, of course, the Vitturi Castle, which houses an impressive collection of the town museum and a beautiful park, a magnificent example of landscape art of the 18th century.

The Vitturi Castle was built at the end of the 15th century by the brothers Nikola and Jerolim from the Trogir noble family of Vitturi. Initially, this striking example of Renaissance palace architecture looked like a monumental residential structure with two observation towers and a wooden drawbridge connecting the castle with the mainland. Later, in the 18th century, Vitturi's descendants replaced the wooden bridge with a stone one and surround the castle with a charming park, which still provides a pleasant cool shade to hide from the hot sun. The castle is now home to the town's historical museum and its extensive collections. It also regularly hosts art exhibitions, music concerts, theatrical performances. By the way, the observation deck and the defensive walls of the castle offer a fabulous view of the picturesque Adriatic coast and the ancient town of Kastela.
