Enjoy the splendor of flowering chestnuts and many-voiced cute birds, feed nuts to fast-moving squirrels, or maybe take a walk and listen to the whispers of the ancient walls of the castle… And for all this, you don't even have to leave your city. Could you say that about your city? The inhabitants of Čakovec can readily say that. Such a park is located in the heart of their city. Once it stretched for many kilometers and today it is still able to surprise its guests.
The Zrinski Cultural Park is located near the main square of the city next to the 13th-century castle of the same name. It was formed during the Renaissance. This is evidenced by the remains of a defensive ditch, as well as individual groups of wild trees and shrubs. The following landscape style at the beginning of the 20th century also left its mark on the appearance of the Park. There are many exotic breeds, and the decorative design is geometric. The main object of this time is a strict fountain, that looks even more avant-garde against the walls of a medieval castle.
In total, there are more than one and a half thousand trees in this corner of nature, among which hornbeam, ash, and maple predominate. In addition to the deciduous family, there are many coniferous beauties in the Park: fluffy firs and slender pines. Zrinski Historical Park is a great example of landscape architecture and design.
In addition to rare natural specimens growing on its territory, the park has many memorials and sculptures related to the history of the city. There is a bronze statue of the Croatian pan Nikola Šubić Zrinski, who is considered the "master" of Čakovec, and a stone monument of his great-grandson Nikolai Zrinski, a famous defender of his city. The statue of St. Jerome of the 18th century is of particular value. Stone sculpture in the Baroque style depicts a penitent Hieronymus beating his chest with a stone.
