Vitosha Boulevard in Sofia
Sofia and surrounding

Although the charming capital of Bulgaria, Sofia, is full of historical treasures, not every tourist is ready to appreciate the grandeur of ancient architecture, the value of museum exhibits, or the beauty of natural landscapes. Some travel thousands of kilometers to have fun in bars, dance in nightclubs and, of course, go shopping in search of the latest fashion trends.

The main trade artery of the Bulgarian capital is Vitosha Boulevard, named after Mount Vitosha in the picturesque surroundings of Sofia. There are no old buildings here. All of them were destroyed, and replaced by huge modern buildings. That's how the modest Vitosha Street turned into a luxurious boulevard in the interwar period.

Today, Vitosha Boulevard houses many trendy shops, bars, and restaurants. It runs from the St. Nedelya Church to South Park. The splendor of such boutiques as Versace, Escada, and Dolce Gabbana outshines the Palace of the Courts and the National Palace of Culture, as well as the unremarkable building that was home to the Bulgarian poet Peyo Yavorov. Apart from these three buildings, everything is lit and glittering with the flickering neon signs of luxury brands. Only wooden benches and antique lanterns, along with stalls in the style of the 1930s, remind of the boulevard's history.

Those who aren't fans of shopping also like the famous Vitosha Boulevard. A walk along the pedestrian street, immersed in greenery, with many street bars and delightful fountains, the splashes of which literary save passers-by on hot sunny days, will forever remain in one's memory. Besides, the selfies taken here will certainly decorate any photo album. It is especially pleasant to get to Vitosha Boulevard on the day of a festive parade or celebration when it is filled with the sounds of music and performances of street artists.
