Locals compare one of the oldest European cities, the ancient Bulgarian Plovdiv, with Paris, Amsterdam, and even their capital. Only Sofia, with its luxurious monuments of ancient architecture and modern dance clubs of all musical genres, can compare with it in the number of attractions and nightlife activities. But unlike the bustling capital, Plovdiv is also ideal for a relaxing family holiday with long walks through the city's main attraction, Tsar Simeon's Garden.
The charming city park has long become a favorite place for the citizens of Plovdiv. Since it was adorned with delightful singing fountains, it has become one of the most visited and popular tourist destinations. Located in the heart of the ancient city, Tsar Simeon's Garden is known for its long shady alleys, excellent bike paths, equipped playgrounds, and perfectly manicured lawns. In addition, the wonderful park houses three sports grounds at once: football, basketball, and volleyball.
Those who prefer quiet contemplation to active recreation can use cozy wooden benches. For art lovers, there are numerous sculptures of talented young sculptors. But even all this splendid decor was not enough for the city's marvelous garden. Thus, in 1980, the famous musical fountains appeared. Every day, as soon as the sun sets on the horizon, a fascinating performance begins, attracting all the city guests. Each time, the audience watches a new story to the sounds of classical music, popular Bulgarian songs, or even the rhythms of passionate Argentine tango.
The magnificent musical fountains are not the only source of water in the city garden. The depths of the shady alleys hide a fabulous pond, the mirror-like azure waters of which reflect the creation of the talented Swiss architect Lucien Chevallaz, who designed the royal garden at the end of the 19th century.
