Not a long time ago the whole world considered golden beaches and soothing Black sea as the resorts of Bulgaria, but today tourists go there not only to swim and sunbathe but also to conquer high mountain peaks and dangerous ski pistes. Bansko, the city located at the foot of the mountain range, Pirin, is a young developing ski resort that is already holding the Alpine Ski World Cup.
The modern winter sports centre was built by Austrian specialists and due to its cutting edge technology is believed to be the best ski resort not only in the country but in all the Balkan peninsula. Its highest point reaches 2600 meters, and the average air temperature allows visitors to enjoy the picturesque slopes from December till May.
The snow depth is always more than 2 meters and even if there is no precipitation, 160 modern snow cannons are going to provide it. The ski pistes of more than 70 kilometers in total are efficiently equipped and satisfy all the safety requirements. The main ski lift of Bansko is an eight-person gondola lift that brings 1500 people every hour.
All the territory of the resort is divided into 3 skiing zones. The track of Chalin Valog piste is suitable for children and beginners, the diverse slopes of Shiligarnik are great for more experienced skiers. The lovers of cross-country skiing are surely going to appreciate the Banderishka Polyana. The resort did not forget about the snowboarders, a fan park was specially organized for them here. Besides, there is a terrific freeride zone, and you can reach its top not only by ski lift or snowmobile but also by helicopter admiring the amazing views of the Pirin reserve in flight.
Life in Basko doesn’t stop at night, it continues until the next morning. The city has about 100 bars and clubs, a few night clubs, a big open-air skating rink illuminated with colored lights.
