The ancient Belgian city of Liege is situated almost on the border with Germany. It offers all kinds of entertainment to suit everyone's taste: whether it is old cathedrals and palaces, or modern cultural centers and unique museums. There are no traffic jams or queues. Comfy coffee houses serve the tastiest Belgian cacao and raisin pancakes and the lacquemant waffles with caramel and chocolate. Admirers of ancient monumental architecture should definitely visit the principal city shrine, St. Paul’s Cathedral with an unusual marble sculpture of Lucifer, and St. James’s Church of the Benedictine Abbey. Lovers of classical painting and contemporary art will appreciate the marvelous collections of La Boverie in the former Palace of Fine Arts (Palais des Beaux-Arts). And fans of outdoor activities, who are not afraid of long walks and steep hill climbs, will be happy to go to the famous Montagne de Bueren staircase with originally-shaped flower beds. Everyone who handles 374 steps of the stairs will see a fantastic view of the whole city from the Coteaux de la Citadelle observation deck.

Whatever led tourists to this fabulous city, all of them visit Fragnee Bridge (Pont de Fragnée), the admirable symbol and hallmark of Liege. It was built over the Meuse River in 1904 for the opening of the World Expo in 1905. The charming arched bridge about 200 meters long was erected by famous Belgian engineer Emile Jacqmain and adorned with sculptural works of Paul Demany. Each entrance has two slender granite pillars crowned with statues of allegorical figures of Goddess Glory looking like beautiful angels, hence the name. Bronze sculptures symbolizing the Old and New rivers are leaning against the columns. Besides, eight Nereids and Tritons rise on pedestals all over the bridge.
