Park of the Fiftieth Anniversary or Jubilee Park is one of the most beautiful parks in Brussels. It covers an area of more than 30 hectares between the Schuman and Merode metro stations in the eastern part of the city.

The park is located close to Leopold Park and Ambiorix Square. However, exploring interesting places in the park itself can take you a whole day.

Belgian King Leopold II decided to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Belgian independence from the Netherlands Kingdom in 1880 by building a splendid park ensemble on the territory of the former military range. This project was managed by the best specialists: Gedeon Bordiau and Louis Fouche.

Initially, the plans of architects were great, but due to the lack of finances, not everything could be implemented immediately. The park was built up gradually. It acquired its modern appearance only in 1910.

The main pearl of the park is a luxurious 50-meter-high triumphal arch. It connects two buildings, which are horseshoe-shaped and decorated with a monumental colonnade. The arch has three huge semicircular passages. Besides, it is crowned by a majestic statue of quadriga which embodies the Belgian province of Brabant. Other provinces are represented as statues at the foot of the arch.

The park houses exhibition pavilions: the Museum of Military History, the Fine Arts Museum, and the exhibition of vintage cars that consists of around 350 rare exhibits. In the opposite part of the park, there is the country's oldest Great Mosque of Brussels as well as the Temple of Human Passions, built by Victor Horta.

Apart from stunning architectural landmarks, the park also has a beautiful landscape design. It looks amazing thanks to the wide green lawns planted in a strict geometric shape, shady alleys, flower beds, landscaped paths, cozy benches, ponds, and even waterfalls.

Besides, there is a huge sports ground for running, football and basketball. The park is open for everyone, every day and for free.
