Austria is famous for its mountain landscapes, forest reserves, and flowery valleys. One of the most beautiful places in the lower part of the country is the Myra Falls.
At the entrance to the reserve, you will be greeted by a cozy outhouse with a stand that provides detailed information about the forest. The trail begins to the right of it. At first, you walk along a smooth, well-groomed path; soon it begins to descend down the slope. Fir, western red cedar, hemlock, and spruce grow along with it. After walking about 200 meters, you will find yourself at a crossroads. It leads to the lower or upper lookout points.
If you take the first trail, there will be some beautiful spots where you can sit on the rocks and relax while enjoying the view. From here, you can see Buttle Lake across the meadow, in the trees down below the waterfall. There are beautiful views of Sid Watts Peak and part of Mt Albert Edward.
The gorge with the waterfall itself is about 600 meters long and has a drop of 70 meters. Three cascades form due to the unique shape of the cliff, and at the upper and lower ends, the water drains into a small pond. The gorge stretches from north to south. Its bowels are covered with limestone.
The second path will offer a picturesque view of the waterfall itself and the forest surroundings. A large pool of green water is perfectly visible from here. It is a great place to appreciate the strength and power of waterfalls. A small observation deck with a concrete wall is not as popular with vacationers, so it is easy to stay here in silence, enjoying nature.
There are two commemorative plaques at the entrance to the Myra Falls. The first recalls the «opening up of the falls and the construction of the ascents by the Pernitz Branch of the O. TC». The second tells us that this place was once visited by Roman-German Emperor Francis II, Empress Maria Theresa, and their heir.
In the upper and lower part of the gorge, there are several cozy restaurants with national food.
