Every self-respecting city has its own museum. It contains historical facts about the area, interesting archaeological finds, and photos that tell about the city's past. Dornbirn is no exception.
Its City Museum is worth visiting in order to find out how this picturesque city appeared, its ancient history and traditions.
The Museum is located on the market square of the city, which is interesting in itself. The City Museum has a permanent exhibition. It was scrupulously collected by history lovers and wealthy collectors, who later donated it to the Museum.
The collection is so extensive and interesting that it occupies as many as three floors of quite a big building. So, on the second floor, there is an exhibition dedicated to the education and construction of Dornbirn. Numerous historical documents and interesting artifacts will recreate the full picture of the appearance of this city on the map of the Vorarlberg region.
Not only ordinary tourists come here, but also scientists and historians. Because there is a possibility to look at household items and clothing of local residents of different eras.
The third floor is dedicated to the development of industry and crafts in the city. Dornbirn could hardly have existed for long without its craftsmen. Most of the photos are dedicated to the economic boom of the 19th century when the city was in its heyday. It was then that modern buildings appeared in it, as well as a huge park with tennis courts and a racetrack.
Dornbirn is one of the main centers of the textile industry in Austria. The Museum could not ignore this important fact from history. The attic is completely given over to the story of this type of industry. Presentations and short films are shown here, as well as interactive materials that will be informative for any tourist.
In total, there are about 300 thousand different exhibits in the Museum. It is quite a lot. It is better to leave at least two hours of your time for a walk on it. By the way, the price for entering the Museum is only 1€ for children and 3.5€ for adults.
