Walking on the shore of Lake Constance, it is difficult not to notice a stunning construction with a bright red brick facade. The Sacred Heart Church is one of the most significant architectural monuments of the district. Two old towers, 62 meters high, majestically rise above the Lower Town.

The story of the church creation is covered in mystery. An unknown patron donated a big sum of money to build this masterpiece in the heart of Bregenz. However, it was enough only for constructing the foundation and several floors. After that, the construction works were stopped, and the building works of the rest of the church were delayed for almost half a century.

The massive Neo-Gothic building was designed by a German architect Joseph Cades. Strong walls and the minimalist external finish contrast with the interior of the construction. The Sacred Heart Church was planned in the shape of a cross with three naves. Biblical scenes with the Twelve Apostles are depicted on the wall frescoes. Altars, made in the Renaissance style and dedicated to the lives of Jesus, Joseph and Mary, are true masterpieces. They were built in the temple during the Second World War. Above the main altar, you can see three amazing windows made of colored glass and decorated with bright stained-glass; they were made by the masters of those times. The western facade of the building is decorated with a rose window. It is located between the two symmetrical towers. There are unusual windows in the upper part of the central nave, they are wonderful clerestory windows. The church is full of light, thanks to many huge pointed windows.

The church has been reconstructed several times.

Not only the building impresses with its beauty, so does the garden, which is on the shore of the lake. Under the shadow of centuries-old trees, there are cozy benches. Residents and city guests often relax there. In the evening, this place becomes even more beautiful. On the other shore, there was settled a floating stage. It is decorated with thousands of lights, giving their warm glow and making the atmosphere more mystical.
