The Carmen Thyssen Art Museum (Catalan name: Museu Carmen Thyssen Andorra) is one of Andorra's young cultural attractions.

The branch in Escaldes-Engordany, founded by Baroness Carmen Thyssen, was the first international representation of the Thyssen Museum after the branches in Madrid and Malaga and the exhibition center in Sant Feliu de Guixols.

The Andorran branch opened on March 16, 2017, as a gallery of paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries. For a tiny principality, this is quite a large exhibition center. The museum is located on the first floor of the former Valira hotel. The building itself is on the principality's list of cultural heritage: it is one of the outstanding examples of «granite architecture». The use of granite blocks in the facade decoration is a feature of Andorran architecture.

Why was Andorra chosen as the location for the new museum? Partly because of Baroness Carmen Thyssen's special connection to the principality. Today, Andorra is her residence (and Carmen was born in the Spanish region of Catalonia, neighboring Andorra), and the residences of her close relatives are also located here.

Half of the museum space of 500 square meters is occupied by a large exhibition hall. Modern technological equipment allows visitors to get convenient access to the exhibits: for example, touch screens provide complete information about the works, as well as the opportunity to see more than even with direct visual contact with the work.

The Thyssen Museum in Andorra displays some selected works from the private collection of Carmen Thyssen. Exhibitions are renewed every year and joint guest exhibitions are compiled with other museums. This ensures that even regular visitors (locals or frequent visitors to Andorra) have the opportunity to discover new selections of works. For example, the museum's branch in Madrid makes it possible to see works of key 19th- and 20th-century visual genres in Andorra as well: French and American Impressionism, Catalan Modernism, Cubism, German Expressionism, or American Hyperrealism.
