Selva Negra is a recreation area located on an extensive coffee plantation. Its appearance is partly fairy-tale: romantic houses, lake surface, picturesque greenery. It seems that it can be called the Nicaraguan Schwarzwald (Selva Negra means black forest). However, there is a noticeable difference: the domesticated forest there is tropical. And all this is accompanied by mountain air in the Matagalpa massif.

The mountain resort is located on the territory of a historic estate. The coffee farm was founded there by German immigrants at the end of the 19th century. And over the past half-century, this place has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nicaragua. You can find this emerald beauty 11 km north of the city of Matagalpa.

This enchanted forest has guest houses, restaurants, and even a chapel. It`s a combination that is suitable for both contemplative relaxation and celebration.

The charming village chapel in rustic style under the shade of giant trees is a popular venue for weddings and christenings. People come there to relax and work in the fresh air: the mountain-forest resort has conference rooms. In the restaurant, you can learn about the history of local coffee plantations. There are photographs, paintings, tools, and other historical items related to the era of colonization and the activities of the Germans who moved to distant Nicaraguan lands in the 19th century and became coffee producers.

The resort is located on the 140th kilometer of the Matagalpa highway, Jinotega. You can get there by rented transport. Buses to Hinotega can also take you to the resort, but you will have to walk from the entrance of the farmhouse to the recreation area.
