The Rubén Darío National Theatre (Teatro Nacional Rubén Darío) has been hosting theatre lovers and fans of various genres of concerts and creative evenings since 1969. The theatre was named after one of the most famous Nicaraguan poets well-known throughout Latin America.

The building is concise and magnificent at the same time, especially in terms of ordinary architecture in Nicaragua. The building in light shades is easily recognizable by the open corridors surrounding it on four sides. The weightless colonnade around the perimeter consists of 50 concrete columns covered with slabs of Italian Carrara marble and supporting the roof.

The main hall is equipped with 1200 seats and a large stage where concerts and performances are held. Music, drama, opera, and ballet: all of these genres are comfortable on a spacious stage. The hall has good acoustics. So many famous actors, dancers, singers of national and international level have repeatedly noted the excellent sound in this space. The parterre is surrounded by three balcony tiers. In the central part of the first tier is the presidential box.

The theatre building also has several small halls for ceremonial meetings or presentations. The large elegant lobby serves as a conference room where book presentations, fashion shows, small concerts or art exhibitions are often held.

The Crystal Hall on the second floor is considered prestigious. It got its name from three crystal chandeliers donated by the Spanish government for the opening of the theatre. The hall hosts chamber meetings, small concerts, or events for up to 350-400 guests.

The theatre is located near the old center of Managua, on the shores of Xolotlán Lake. It is easy to get there after visiting the historical quarters of the capital. The Central Park, which includes the theatre, the Old Cathedral (Cathedral of Santiago de Managua), and the House of Peoples (Casa de Los Pueblos), is separated from the lake promenade by the Xolotlán transport avenue.

The theatre has the rules traditional for cultural institutions: 15 minutes after the start of the performance or concert, the entrance to the halls is closed; spectators in shorts, beach shoes, and casual or sportswear are not allowed; children under 4 years old can not attend the performances.
