One of the popular souvenirs that can be brought from the island of Saint Kitts, except for shells, is a beautiful, bright silk scarf with a handmade pattern. The place, where the most famous batik is made, is also that beautiful.
A gorgeous garden with bright, fragrant flowers depicted on scarves, dresses, bags, and other products amaze so much. The house, where the factory is located, is not noticed behind the wide leaves of various plants. You see it, just come closer. As soon as you come here, you feel easy and comfortable. The atmosphere is relaxing.
We can say that Romney Manor is the birthplace of one of the United States presidents. Back in 1625, the great-great-great-great-grandfather of Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, bought a small, modest house in Saint Kitts.
Later, the estate passed to the Earl of Romney. The house was painted red and named the “red house”. Sugarcane was planted here. Over so many years, all plantations were destroyed. They were flooded by rains and eaten by animals.
In the 20th century, the new owner looked at the beautiful garden and established a batik factory. Gradually, it became known worldwide. Probably, even Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, bought a neckerchief for his dear wife.
Walking around the factory, find out how batik is made, admire the work in the store, and come to the garden one more time. The incredible Saman tree grows here. It is the only permanent owner of the estate. It is located there for more than 400 years. Saman is huge! Twenty-four feet in a circle! People come here to see this tree again and again. They feel special energy close to it.
