You walk across the bridge and see some small huts - this is the village of Kalinago Barana Autê. Half-artificial, reconstructed, and half-real, showing the life of the ancient tribes of Dominica.

They say that it is better to learn something about a new country through communication and its inhabitants. You can visit the village of Kalinago Barana Autê and get closer to the traditions, history, and culture of Dominica.

The village is located in a very picturesque place. Despite the heat around, it is very fresh here. It happens owing to the river and a two-stage waterfall in the village. The waters of the waterfall flow into the Atlantic Ocean.

Arriving at the locals, you can see how the ancient tribes lived. There are several traditional buildings - Ajup huts. They are located all over the village. These are small houses, made of straw. Smile, and people may invite you to come to the house. 

In the center of the village, there is a carbet - the largest hut. It is a concert hall. Nobody checks tickets here, but theatrical performances take place from time to time. 

Walk across the village. You can be surprised that people live in thatched houses. Then, you see women picking herbs for a medical broth or a group of men building canoes. Here, you also can learn traditional Kalinago crafts.

It is better to learn the culture of the Kalinago tribe through songs and dances. In the evening, you can go to the theater – the largest hut – and be ready for a new experience. It is a little strange, like most dances of ancient tribes, but very charming. 

The locals are so smiling and friendly. Their culture is so interesting and enticing that you have a desire to study it further. And you can do it. For extra money, you may stay in the local house, learn the ancient ways of hunting and fishing, make herbal medicines, and dance like members of a tribe.
