No hotels, no people, no animals, nothing ... Just white sand and the Pacific Ocean. Beautiful Clipperton Island…is a paradise with a dark past. You need to come to the island to stay alone, feel like Robinson Crusoe, and test yourself. And also to get tanned and examine every stone and shell in the waters of Clipperton.
The diving here is great! The underwater world is so unique that you lose time, looking at it. But let’s go back to land! To the small strip of white sand, rising over the waters of the Pacific Ocean. There are no rocks, mountains, or other hills, just some palm trees and rare shrubs – that is all you can see on the island of Clipperton.
The fauna of the island is also scant. Crabs, fish, people also say that there are penguins, but it is not a fact, only seagulls fly sometimes. But, visiting Clipperton, you can say that you were in France. The island belongs to the fifth republic.
Paradise has a drawback. Clipperton’s dark history began in 1914 when a military garrison of 12 soldiers landed here. They came to extract a special fertilizer - Guano. Like the wives of the Decembrists, the soldiers were followed by their lovers and children.
Every two months, the settlers got food from neighboring Acapulco. It was impossible to grow anything on the island. At the highest point, called the "rock", they built a lighthouse and began the development of the territory. They lived like this for almost three years.
While there were food and water, the settlers did not even think to grieve, but a sudden hurricane swept from the surface of the island all the buildings, and the hope for a happy future with them. In Mexico, the war came, and the settlers were forgotten. People stopped sending them food and aid. Half of the inhabitants of the island died of starvation. Men died trying to get help. As a result, there was left one lighthouse keeper, women, and children. He beat and raped them until he was punished.
In 1917, a ship arrived on the island. The sailors were shocked by what they saw. There were survived, hungry, and exhausted three women and 7 children.
