Big Black Hole Lake
Samoa and surrounding
Rivers, Lakes
Rivers, Lakes

It seems that the hole is huge, endless, and very deep, but not black! Though the locals called this miracle of nature “Big Black Hole” or “To Sua”.

The lake is located in the village of Lotofaga on the island of Upolu in the state of Samoa. After coming to the edge, it is better to make sure that the soil does not crumble, and then spread the arms to the sides and keep the balance. That place is incredibly beautiful!

The exact origin of the lake is unknown. It is unclear whether there was a volcano, but that view creates an impression that people can descend to the abyss. Not to the boiling and erupting burning lava, but to the crystal clear, turquoise, and incredibly refreshing hollow. This natural pond deserves the title “the symbol of Polynesia”!

The place is so magic! Imagine that you are walking through the rainforest, and suddenly see a huge hole, 30 meters deep! It is a little scary, but the excitement is stronger than other feelings! It seems that fairy creatures, elves, and mermaids are going to appear.

Take a swimsuit for a walk to the lake. You can swim there. To come to the decent, you have to overcome some steps, but do not worry, you will not regret it. Down, to the "turquoise abyss" leads a very solid staircase. In the end, there is a small platform, and then - crystal-clear water. Small grottoes are formed around the perimeter of the lake. You also can examine them, and get a feeling of swimming in a semi-covered pool. It is a real tropical paradise.

In comparison with the heat and the scorching sun, the water is very refreshing, it gives strength. Plunging to the water, you feel that the water is salty. Yes, that is the water of the Pacific Ocean. Owing to multiple underground sources, the lake has not dried up yet.
