Chandelier Cave
Palau and surrounding
Caves
Caves

Nature is a good joker. It loves to hide its beauties in the most inaccessible places. That place is located close to the Palau Island. It is Chandelier Cave, next to Koror Island. The cave is underwater. It is called “a chandelier” because of the sparkling stalactites growing from the ceiling.

If you dare to dive, you will be rewarded with an incredible landscape. The light of a lamp seeping through the darkness shows the strange, huge stones. They hang from above, stick up from the bottom… they are everywhere! Diving a few meters in a light panic, come to the surface and look around. Around there are hundreds of beautiful stalactites. They reflect in the water, and it seems that all the lumps pierce the thickness of the water.

People come to the cave by boat, and then, overcoming fear and strong desire to see everything as soon as possible, jump into the water and find the cave-in a few meters. It consists of five separate cells where you can come up and take a breath to swim further.

Now, imagine that this cave appeared during the Ice Age! Then the water level in the ocean was much lower. Gradually coming, it was filling the cave cells more and more. The rainwater seeping the layers of limestone made the beautiful crystalline formations for many thousands of years. Like sculptures in a palace! When you will come up, raise your hand first not to hit your head.

In the fifth cell, you can come out of the water and examine the stalactites in detail. There, they have an interesting reddish shade.

When you swim back, do not turn off the flashlight underwater. In that way, you have an opportunity to take gorgeous photos of divers swimming towards you.

Take a closer look, there are also other organisms. Of course, not the scary monsters… But, who knows, the cave has not yet been fully explored. But there is a rare and very small mandarin fish.
