The magnificent Huvalu Forest occupies almost a quarter of the small island of Niue. That place is not just beautiful but also has several unique features. For example, in an area of about a thousand hectares, are collected unique ancient tropical plants, which you cannot find on other islands. There, in the Huvalu Forest live rare birds: bright parrots, swamp chickens, and other species. And almost a third of a park is located in the coastal zone. So, the Huvalu Nature Reserve has beautiful views on the ocean, it is a perfect place for seeing sunrises and sunsets.
There are also a lot of animals. But they are rather unusual for an average tourist. In the Huvalu forest, you cannot see koalas or unusual monkeys, llamas or tigers. But there are wild cats and a large number of bats, which can be called the main aborigines of the island.
The first bats appeared in the Huvalu Forest more than 1000 years ago, when the first Polynesian settlers inhabited the Huvalu forest. Bats quickly integrated into the local biosphere and became the competent inhabitants and owners of the island.
Inside the nature reserve, there are made a lot of hiking and cycling walking and touristic routes. They are divided into simple and complex ones, so any traveler can choose the most convenient route for him. Some of the routes lead through caves and small lakes, others - through reefs and rocks, others lead to the coast to let you see whales and dolphins. Every route covers a part of a huge picturesque Huvalu forest for admiring the beauty of local nature.
