Based in the cool shade of the Nausori mountain range, the Garden of the Sleeping Giant is one of the most delightful discoveries made during a visit to Fiji. Despite the lack of attractions, cafes, and other entertainments there is just silence, peace, and solitude. The place is very popular among tourists. The visitors from Canada like the Botanical Garden so much that in the country a postage stamp with its image was released.

The mountain, covered in a haze, at the foot of which is located a nature reserve, definitely looks like a sleeping giant. It is a great place to spend a day, walking along the dense rainforest through magnificent lawns, calm lily ponds with murmuring fountains and croaking frogs.

A visit to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant starts with a greeting from the guides, a brief description of the park, and a history of turning the mountain valley into a fantastic garden. After that, you can go on the trip by yourself. On the paths are installed signs, which you can use for navigating in the jungle. Or you can continue to walk along the marvelous gardens with a guide. No extra charge needed.

The main treasure of the garden is the tropical plants. There is the largest collection of plants of all the South Pacific islands. Ficuses and lianas, palm trees and dwarf bananas, bamboo and reeds, orchids, and passion flowers… You can see how plants live in natural conditions. You will be so impressed by Monstera, Dieffenbachia, and Tradescantia.

The picturesque path leads you through the entire rainforest. On the giant’s road, you see not just the jungle, but also lakes, ponds, well-groomed lawns, and waterfalls. And the path gets you to the hut of the museum’s founder. In the house, you see the personal belongings of the actor R. Berr, photographs, a diary, even a favorite chair, and a cane.

Garden of the Sleeping Giant is located about 10 minutes away to the north of Nadi. For $ 18 you can walk there as much as you can.
