Castles, Fortresses, Towers
Castles, Fortresses, Towers

The first to see off Sydney's sunrises, and the last to see off its sunsets. We are talking about the Sydney Tower – an integral part of the urban landscape for several decades. Contrary to popular belief, it has never been associated with television, although its spire is actually used for telecommunications and navigation purposes. The Sydney Tower is a shopping center, recreation area, and tourist attraction. There are offices, shops, cafes, and restaurants, a platform with panoramic views, and even an open sliding viewing platform.

Construction of the tower began in the mid-seventies of the last century and continued until 1981. It is an interesting example of engineering and high-quality construction. But we will not go into the technical nuances and details of the construction of the tower. Suffice it to say that today it is considered one of the safest structures in the world: thanks to its amazing design and structure, it is able to withstand earthquakes and extreme wind conditions. Although at the same time it has a significant height of 309 meters!

The Sydney Tower is the tallest building in the city. Moreover, for some time it held the title of the highest building not only in Australia but also in the entire Southern Hemisphere. However, in 1997, it was overtaken by the Sky Tower in New Zealand's Auckland, and in 2005 by the Q1 Tower in Australia's Gold Coast. At the same time, the observation deck of the tower in Sydney is more than 50 meters higher than in Auckland, so it's too early to move it from its pedestal!

If you are not attracted to the idea of walking around Sydney, then go up to the Sydney Tower Eye and see all the sights at once from a bird's eye view. It offers an unsurpassed panoramic view of the city and its surroundings. Take a closer look and you will see the famous Blue Mountains of Sydney, located at a distance of more than 80 kilometers and painted in an unusual color due to eucalyptus trees. Nearby is Darling Harbour with boats and ferries plying the water, where the Wild Life Zoo and Sea Life aquarium are located on the pier. Turn right and you'll see the historic Rocks quarter, which is home to the city's oldest pub – the Fortune of War. A little further on is the Harbour Bridge. Continue moving clockwise and note the wide white-sand coastline of Bondi Beach. Continue on the course and enjoy the Allianz and Sydney Cricket grounds. And at the end of the panoramic tour – the airport runways.
