The Royal Botanic Garden is a green oasis in the business center of Sydney, located on the shore of Farm Cove, next to the famous Opera House. It is one of the three largest botanical gardens in the city and the oldest scientific institution in the country.

More than 5 million people visit the garden every year. It is one of the top ten most popular places among tourists. According to the NSW Tourism Award, the Royal Botanic Garden has repeatedly become the main attraction of New South Wales. So everyone can visit the garden – It is open all year round and the entrance is free of charge.

The Botanical Garden started its activity in 1816. At first, its employees were engaged in collecting and acclimating plants from all over the world, solving problems of infertile soil, poor water supply, and insufficient funding. By the beginning of the 20th century, the garden began to acquire a familiar look and landscape. At the same time, a new herbarium building was built. Over the next century, the staff continued to expand the collection of the Botanical Garden and refine its territory. And in 1959, the institution received the «Royal» title.

Today, the Royal Botanic Garden of Sydney occupies 30 hectares of land, which is home to more than 27 thousand plants and trees from different parts of the world. The entire territory is divided into several thematic zones. Walking through the garden, you can see local plants, visit the Australian Indian rockery, the palace rose garden, palm grove, camellia garden, and many other interesting places.

To find out what plants were originally growing in the Botanical Garden, visit the exhibition dedicated to the history of the indigenous Cadigal. To move to the Far East, take a walk among the wild and cultivated plants of Asian countries. To find yourself in Sydney's bushland, walk along Woolloomooloo Bay. To wander through the rainforest, turn deep into the garden. To find out where ferns grow and how they differ from other plants, stop by the Sydney Fernery. And this is just a small part of the amazing opportunities provided by the Royal Botanic Garden of Sydney.

For those who do not like walking, special trams run through the garden.
