Sydney's Taronga Zoo was officially opened in 1916. Over the 100 years of its existence, it has evolved from a place of entertainment to a mature center for nature conservation and education that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of zoological activities. Employees of the institution create healthy and sustainable ecosystems, reconstruct the natural habitats of their wards, and promote the idea of protecting wildlife around the world.

Taronga Zoo is located in the northern part of Sydney in the area of Bradleys Head Road. It can be reached by ferry or by car.

The territory of this zoo covers more than 20 hectares. The collection of species represented here contains more than 350, many of which are endangered. Some of these animals you know for sure, and some you will see for the first time.

You should pay special attention to the area of the African Savannah. It provides a unique experience of immersion in the atmosphere of Kenya, where you can learn not only about the five iconic animals of this country but also about the activities of the institution for the conservation of these species. So, the territory of Taronga became home to lions, giraffes, zebras, meerkats, and fennec foxes. Each animal has its name and a story that you will definitely want to get to know.

Every day there are mass educational conversations about the life of wild animals and birds, sometimes even with elements of shows and feeding. You have a unique opportunity to learn interesting facts from the zoo staff about Asian elephants, Komodo lizards, friendly capybaras, elegant fur seals, unique birds of Sydney Harbour, and the closest relatives of humans – chimpanzees and gorillas.

Every year Taronga Zoo hosts a number of major events that attract the attention of locals and tourists. You may be lucky enough to be one of them. For example, there is a series of evening concerts with live music and views of Sydney Harbour as well as New year's Eve and Christmas celebrations.
