Hunter Valley Gardens is a magnificent blooming oasis in the heart of the Hunter Valley, famous for its wineries all over the world. It's one of the most beautiful and secluded places to stay, just an hour's drive from the coastal southeastern city of Newcastle. On 14 hectares of land, there are a dozen real landscape works of art, complete with attractions for children as well as stores and restaurants to escape the midday heat.
Hunter Valley Gardens was created by Bill Roche, founder of the Roche Group of Australia. In the nineties, he retired and decided, by all means, to realize all his creative ambitions and build a place that even future generations could enjoy.
Construction of the gardens began in 1999. Architects, engineers, and landscape designers were involved in their creation. A total of about 50 people were involved in the development team of Bill Roche's grand idea. Construction lasted about 4 years, and the grand opening of the park and the new attraction took place in 2003.
While at Hunter Valley Gardens, the most enjoyable thing is to take a walk, breathing in the clean country air, basking in the warm sunshine, and enjoying the incredible beauty all around. The design of the gardens is very diverse and a walk through them is akin to a little trip around the world: China, India, France, Italy, England. Visitors to the park can not only immerse themselves in the atmosphere of other countries but also get acquainted with thousands of different plants.
Some gardens can be compared to the decorations of the famous fairy tale Alice in Wonderland. The Border Garden is just like a maze, the Rose Garden where the flowers come to life, and the Storybook Garden, the name of which speaks for itself... Here, visitors are greeted by artful topiaries and figurines of their favorite characters from childhood.
