One of the most beautiful and popular attractions in Launceston is the Cataract Gorge. It is located near the South Esk River, almost in the heart of the city: the natural complex can be reached on foot from the main street in just 15 minutes. Since the park is located in a gorge, the contrast between urban life and wildlife is felt very strongly. And all this in the maximum proximity to civilization.

This place is loved not only by tourists but also by locals who come there to walk along endless paths, relax in the park, eat in cafes hidden among dense greenery or take a dip in the outdoor pool.

Actually, Cataract Gorge is an ideal park for a leisurely holiday. There you can endlessly admire the unique natural beauty that Tasmania is so rich in. Picnics, sports games, and contemplation of the beautiful have not spoiled anyone's mood yet.

Well, what can you do in Cataract Gorge, beside quiet relaxation in nature?

For active guests of the park, there are several hiking tracks of varying degrees of difficulty. Some are very simple, for beginners. Others are for more confident athletes: on the road, there are ascents and descents, narrow paths among the green thickets of Tasmanian nature. The most famous route passes over the king's bridge, which was built in 1890. There is still an old building where the toll was collected from those who passed over the bridge.

There is also the world's longest chairlift, which is 457 meters long. At first glance, the road is not long. But it is very beautiful. A magnificent view of the entire gorge opens from the height of the lift. And at the entrance to the terminal, the seats seem to pierce a green tunnel of trees. Such beauty is very rare.

It is also home to the historic Duck Reach power station, launched in 1893, which now serves as a museum.
