Stefano Lubiana Wines represents Tasmania at its best, from the land where the vines grow to the sleek glass bottles filled with locally produced wine. If you want to discover the true flavor of this remote Australian island, then feel free to go here.
Stefano Lubiana was founded by fifth-generation winemaker Steve Lubiana and his wife Monique. Mario Lubiana, Steve's father, immigrated from Italy to Australia with his family after WWII. They settled in the south of the country, where Mario established a winery in 1953. The whole family was sure that sooner or later Steve would take over the management of his father's business, but as it often happens in life, the young man decided to go his own way.
Steve traveled a lot and got acquainted with the traditions of wine production in different territories. At the same time, he met Monique, with whom he had a lot in common, and fell in love with her. The young people got married and went on a honeymoon to Tasmania, which eventually stole their hearts. In 1990, the couple purchased a 252-hectare plot of land in Granton, a suburb of Hobart, and planted it with a small number of the grapes of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Gradually, the planting of vines increased. Today, Stefano Lubiana's vineyards are home to a variety of grapes: Grüner Veltliner, Malbec, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Shiraz (Syrah).
Stefano Lubiana Wines stands out among other Tasmanian wineries. It is the only certified biodynamic vineyard on the entire Australian island where, since 2010, they have stopped using any synthetic soil and berry treatments, food additives, and preservatives in the creation of wines. Steve and Monique took an alternative route – a risky but rewarding step towards maximum naturalness. To provide qualitative soil regeneration and effective care of grapes at any time of the year the spouses followed cosmic rhythms and also the signs of Mother Nature. Such experiments made Stefano Lubiana one of the most progressive and famous wineries in Australia.
