Many Cairns residents believe that Paronella Park and the Spanish Dream is the main attraction of their area, which is simply inexcusable to leave without attention.
The place attracts not only with its beauty but also its interesting history. In 1913, a young man, Jose Paronella, came to Australia from Spain. He really wanted to get rich so that he could have a beautiful wedding with his beloved Matilda. Jose worked on sugar cane plantations, saved money as much as he could, and went from job to job to earn more. When he had saved enough money, he purchased his plantation and began to grow richer rapidly. After nine years, he saved the necessary amount to return to his homeland and propose to the woman he loved. But it turned out that she did not wait for him and got married. Smart Jose did not grieve for long and asked the sister of his former lover, Margarita, who almost immediately agreed to marry him.
Young people traveled around Europe for several years to learn more about architecture. And so they came up with their future dream castle, which they wanted to build in Australia.
In 1929, they returned to Cairns and bought a small land plot there, where they began building a chic cottage, reminiscent of the style of castles in Catalonia.
As a result, the castle of the Spanish Dream turned out to be so beautiful and outlandish for Australians that locals went specifically to see this miracle. After all, everything was unusual there. For example, a huge disco ball, the cost of which was a third of the cost of the entire castle, hung there. Because of the constant visitors, the Paronella family was forced to build a small house near the castle, where they could live in peace.
