It is always very interesting to look at old buildings that have survived for centuries. In Australia, near the city of Ballarat, there is a small town of Sovereign Hill - an open-air museum where you can not only admire the old houses but also learn interesting facts about the history of this place.

In the nineteenth century, Sovereign Hill was full of life: there were mines; hundreds of people lived there; trade was developing. But gradually the mines were closed, people moved in search of a good life in larger cities, and this settlement became empty. But Sovereign Hill did not become a Ghost town. It was decided to turn it into an open-air museum, where more than 300 people now live and work.

The atmosphere of the 19th century was completely preserved on the Sovereign Hil. Arriving there, you are transported to the 1850s: special dresses and hats, hairstyles, stylized bank, pharmacy, and post office. There are no cars there. How can there be cars in the middle of the 19th century? Only carts with horses. And the almost complete lack of electricity. The maximum level of authentication!

Many artisans are working in the village. Forges make named horseshoes, confectioners prepare sweets according to old recipes, printers manually type texts for ads and theater posters. And in the photo studio offer to make a stylized photo – is not this the best souvenir?

There you can not only walk through the streets and go to a pharmacy, shop, or bar but also go down to the mine to try to wash your own gold. If you find it – it's yours!

Besides, Sovereign Hill regularly hosts theatrical performances and historical reenactments, which are a great pleasure to watch. Also, the audience is often involved in the process so that everyone can fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere of an interesting and beautiful era of the 19th century.
