Do you want to be inside the walls of a stylish modern cellar but still enjoy the taste of fine classic wine? Then head to Torbreck, an Australian winery that creates exceptional drinks in the style of the French Rhone Valley and from the finest vineyards in the Barossa Valley.
Torbreck was founded in 1994 by David Powell, who had previously spent several years of his life working at Robert O'Callaghan's Rockford Wines, an Australian winery. The young man, inspired to create his own brand, discovered and purchased several plots of land with old and dry vines that had been abandoned by the previous owners due to their unprofitability: wineries required large financial investments, time, and effort but inevitably gave low yields. David was not afraid of difficulties. He invested all his love into the exhausted, perennial vineyards and gave them a second life.
The new winery was named after the Scottish forest where David Powell worked as a lumberjack after attending university. The first Torbreck wine didn't make it to store shelves. On the one hand, the vintage was too small to sell. On the other hand, the owner of the winery had no intention of sending the wine to store shelves, as he produced it for his own consumption. A few years later, when David was convinced of the high quality of his drinks, he introduced them to the world. The fame of the young Australian company, producing small batches of stunning wine, quickly spread around the world. Torbreck Vintners was booming shortly, and collectors began to hunt for its rare but valuable vintages.
The popularity and quality of Torbreck's wine continue to grow. Today, as more than 20 years ago, the winery produces wines imitating the refined style of the French Rhone Valley and uses a variety of grapes: Grenache, Mataro, and Syrah stand out from the reds; Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne stand out from the whites. Even the famous critic Robert Parker, who included Torbreck in the list of 100 best wineries in the world, noted the local drinks.
