Hahndorf is an incredibly pleasant and attractive place, because they preserved all the old European traditions that introduced by German settlers and integrated into the Australian reality, in which they had to create their new lifestyle, where they merged fancy. As a result, we got a special mix: it seems to be a prudish Germany, but with a somewhat relaxed and freer disposition, which the residents have acquired on the territory of Australia.

Getting from Adelaide to this secluded place, you immediately feel the contrast between a large bustling city and a small village: neat houses in the Victorian style, which are still well preserved, the silence, peace, and hospitality of the local inhabitants. You realize that you are not in Europe, but in Australia. This is  because the trees that are not typical for German cities and flocks of noisy parrots that fly here and there.

It is very pleasant to rest there. Walking can and should be interrupted by visits to restaurants, there are many of them. They offer national German cuisine (meat, fat), traditional beer, and, of course, wine from local Australian wineries.

If you want to learn more about the history of the village, you should look at the house museum of a local landscape artist, where his works are displayed. They show how Handorf looked almost from the first day of creation, and how it developed.

You should definitely look at the old church, which was built a year after the village was founded, and continues to work until now. The temple is small but very cozy and pleasant. And it is often possible to meet old-timers who will tell you something interesting.

For children, there is also a separate entertainment: a small but very funny animal farm (Hahndorf Farm Barn). This is not a petting zoo. This is a real farm where children can not only feed but also take care of pets to understand how peasant life was arranged.
