While coming down from heaven, a Khmer goddess Ba Den stepped on the highest point of Vietnam. The mountain is located at an altitude of 996 meters above sea level. This is what the first legend about the Black Virgin Mountain says.

The second legend is much sadder. Locals believe that the name of the mountain was given to it by an unhappy woman. She fell in love with a soldier, but he betrayed her. She could not forgive him and committed suicide on the top of the mountain.

The amount of legends about the Black Virgin Mountain, which are spread in the vicinity of Ho Chi Minh, is so huge, that it can be compared to the number of trees on its slopes. There are lots of them. While climbing to the top, do not forget to look down, to the right, to the left and around. Even when you see everything, you will not want to leave that place – it is too beautiful. The eastern side of the hill will offer a fascinating view of the biggest water reserve in Vietnam. Moreover, from this place, you can see neat farm fields, valleys and also exotic birds and animals which appear there sometimes.

To see all this beauty, you can organize a little trip and climb the mountain on foot. You can choose an easy but not less beautiful route – going up by cableway. This place is especially impressive during religious celebrations. You can watch multi-colored crowds of pilgrims among the greenery while sitting in a cabin. At the top of the hill, there are many Buddhist temples. People come there to worship a large statue of Buddha.

There are lots of tiny paths around the temples. By exploring each of them you can walk around the whole mountain. The Black Virgin Mountain is popular not only for its beautiful views and luxurious temples but also for its delicious food. There you can enjoy local cuisine, several types of apples and bananas, which you will not find at the bottom of the hill, as well as delicious nuts.

After you watched Vietnam from a bird's eye view, prayed to the Buddha and tasted traditional dishes, go down. You can get down quickly – by special sled. They will carry you down the slope at an incredible speed.
