The war with the U.S. was a tragic event but at the same time a bright spot in the history of Vietnam. All over the country, there are thousands of various monuments, museums, memorials and other places of remembrance and evidence of the war. One of such places is the Zone 5 Military Museum in Da Nang.
The museum was established in memory of the defense of the fifth military zone during the battle with the French army as a part of the war between the U.S. and Vietnam. The advantageous geographical and economical position of Da Nang, so to say, played a dirty trick on it: there were many battles on the territory of the city and in its vicinity. In the museum, the history of tragic events is represented perfectly.
Those, who are fond of military equipment, will like this place very much. Tanks of different models, combat aircraft, cannons, machine guns – this is not a museum but a true battlefield. Half of a day can only be spent on viewing the outdoor exposition of the museum. It is impossible to simply pass by a tank or an aircraft. You want to peer into every button in the cabin. In this place, there are not only machines of local production but also French, American and Soviet ones. By the way, enemy guns outnumber.
You can spend the second part of the day in a three-story building of the museum, with your eyes always caught upon things, viewing exhibit by exhibit. There are lots of weapons. The spacious halls also display various items of Vietnamese soldiers’ equipment, rewards, archive documents and lots of photos of the wartime. There are many exhibits from the Soviet Union.
The museum is located in a special place. All the technology and three floors of weapons and other exhibits are placed on the territory of the currently functioning military base.
The Zone 5 Military Museum in Da Nang is a must-visit place even for those who came to Da Nang for a warm sea, beaches and exotic fruits. It is a very interesting place, thanks to which you can learn the important historical event of the country and, thus, better understand Vietnam.
